Freehand 10 crashes

Hi
I am yet another diehard fan of Freehand (while everyone is laughing at me for still using it) and I have just installed it on my new mac using Snow Leopard 10.6. While it still works, it crashes for no reason at all. I could be scaling an object or saving a file or whatever. It all of the sudden crashes and it quits all other running apps. Has anyone experienced this and what can I do about it? Maye I should upgrade to MX? If so, can I still do that? I refuse to give up Freehand!
thanks
Nadia

kripes, you're feakin' me out. is this the fate of my spanking new iMac? I installed FH as soon as I got it (used the Adobe fix), and no trouble for about 3 or 4 weeks now. I'll be back to this post if anything goes awry.

Have you tried setting the most liberal file permissions to all folders and files that FH uses? This is always the first thing I try with OS X troubles. More often than not, some critical resource file has been set to a restrictive permission, and all but the most core user Name (wheel, system, etc.) is set to Read & Write. You might try command+info on your Preferences folder(s), Application Support, etc and set all users to Read+Write then "apply to enclosed items" (in the Actions icon at info panel bottom). You may also need to unlock the info panel using the padlock icon, also at bottom. Hope that helps but it may completely miss the point. Keep in mind you can also wreak havoc on the system by setting file permissions improperly so tread carefully.

Anyway, Free FeeHand is about to get very loud with Adobe, and this all is part of the story. Ongoing support of FreeHand is paramount to our cause.

Word of warning to all on Snow Leopard--FH MX 11.02 worked beautifully on my new QuadCore 27" iMac for 30 days. Lighting fast. Perfect!!! Then it stopped working with no warning at all (bouncing icon in dock). Feels like it thought I was working with a trial version, though I've owned FH for 12+ years. I've preferred FH over Illustrator all this time, and though CS4 has the 'like FreeHand" option, it's still not nearly as easy to use. I'm up to about 8 hours of tech support with Adobe, and still no answer.

Have tried all of the workarounds seen online (about 5 different, and have tried the Adobe registration fix more than a dozen times, uninstall, reinstall, etc.). Had hoped to try the OSX 10.5 fixes seen in a few places... But you cannot downgrade the new iMacs. Apple tech support says it'll make things even worse.

Hoping this won't happen to any other 27" iMac FH users.

This was brought up a while back and, yes, FH10 does crash at odd times as one user says here: http://freefreehand.yousaidit.com/questions/5403-how-does-freehand-10-run-in-leopard-and-snow-leopard

I've read elsewhere pretty much the same thing unless you have a volume license which one person said works. They didn't go into detail though.

The only solution looks to be moving up to FHMX which is working on Snow Leopard (as you'll find in these forums and at Adobe's FreeHand Forum.) Upgrading for $99 will be fine at the Adobe Store.

I'm not sure this will help everyone, but I have Freehand 10, and Freehand MXa 11.0.2 both running on a new MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Yesterday got the bouncing icon when I tried to open 11.0.2. Went back and tried everything that had been mentioned in work arounds and got nothing. Trashed everything and reinstalled from v.10.0. Did each upgrade using the new upgrade ser#'s and the old ser#'s. Took them all the way to v 11.0.2. Everything worked again as it should. Then reinstalled from v 10.0, and that worked. We will see if in some future time it will quit again, but for now both are working, and I'm able to open old projects OK.

A lot of trouble, but it worked.
